Photographer's Bio

Jay Fitzgerald is a native of Los Angeles, California who now resides in White Lake, Michigan with his wife Eva and son Jack. His love of nature and the outdoors was fostered early in his life during many trips into California’s San Bernardino, San Gabriel, and Sierra mountains. At a young age his father, who was once employed as a host in Yosemite National Park, instilled in him an appreciation for photography, wildlife, and the outdoors. Over his years as an automotive industry supplier, Jay has relocated his home several times to major cities from California to Oklahoma, Michigan, New Jersey, and Indiana, all the while seeking out the nearest natural setting to hike, fish, and of course, take photographs.

Computers and engineering were woven into the fabric of Jay’s education, and his passion for photography developed during the digital age of capturing and recording images.  Although he has no formal photographic dark room experience, he “develops” his images in the “digital darkroom” with enjoyment and familiarity.

Jay and his wife Eva family moved to White Lake, Michigan in 2004. They soon found the nearby Highland State Recreation Area and joined in the founding of the Friends of Highland Recreation Area volunteer organization. He is now secretary and website manager for the group and is passionate about capturing the history and beauty of the Haven Hill Natural Area and the Edsel and Eleanor Ford’s historic Haven Hill Estate with photography and film (digital video).
